Managing Roms
Supported File Types | View Options | Filtering Games | More on Game Management

To begin managing your games, you will need to create what is called a ‘Game List’. If you click on the plusbutton above the Game Lists, you will be able to make your game list. For now, just give it a name and press ‘Create’. Do not worry about anything else, as more details about the Game Lists are explained later in the ‘Using Game Lists’ section.

When your game list is created, you will see it show up in the Game Lists.

2_1_1

To be able to add games into your game list, first you will need to Hilight your list by clicking on it. This will put Rominator in a state where you can manipulate the selected list by adding or removing games. All you need to do from there is drag and drop your games from the Finder or Windows Explorer into the Rom List.

Your game will then be added into Rominator. Please note that any games used for demonstration of Rominator’s functionality are backed up from legally purchased carts. Rominator or it’s author does not condone or support piracy in any way.

2_1_3

As you can see in the image above, the ‘Num’ column has been populated already with a piece of information. This is because Rominator automatically recognized the game that was dropped into it and has assigned information from the DS Game Database to the game that has been added. You *must* have a game list selected before you are able to add games to Rominator!
Alternatively, you can add games into the selected game list by double clicking on a .nds or .rz game, or by dragging a game to the Rominator icon in the dock [Mac OS X] Note that if you move a game from the location that it was added in from, it will be marked as missing. This will be shown in Rominator by making the background of the game in the list being red.

Supported File Types

Rominator supports 3 different file types of DS Games:
.nds - Nintendo DS Game. These are raw Nintendo DS games with no alterations done to them whatsoever
.zip - Zipped DS Game. These are games that have been compressed using the widely popular Zip format in order to save space, in case your collection is large or you just like to keep things compressed in general.
.rz - Rominator Zipped DS Game. These are games that have been compressed with a special format proprietary to Rominator, allowing for them to be specially used and accessed with Rominator. More details on Rominator Zip (rZip) is covered in the ‘Compress’ section of the ‘Toolbar Actions’.

View Options

A big function of Rominator is to be able to see game data, such as it’s release number, country of origin, or it’s publisher. Every DS game also has an icon encoded into the rom itself, which can be read by Rominator. The way you view your lists is totally customizable with all of such information, and more. To customize the look and feel of your game list, select the list and in the ‘Tools’ menu, choose ‘View Options’.

The list on the left is the different columns of data that you can add to your game list, where the list on the right shows the current columns that are visible in your list. You can add as many columns as your want from the left list and display them in your list. Rominator is catered to your tastes so you can view the list whichever way you want. If you select ‘Icons’ as a viewable column, you will also be able to have the option of showing the icons full size (32x32) or half size (16x16). Setting the ‘Game List Color’ will allow you to set the background colour of the game list in the Game Lists. Below is an example of a game list with different column views and a custom game list color:

2_1_5

The columns can also be rearranged by dragging the columns on the right side to any row. The rom list will be updated in real time to show you exactly what your view options will make your rom list look like.
It is also possible to resize the column sizes in the rom list. Just grab the ends of a column heading, and drag it. All modifications that are done in regards to the view options and rom list are saved, so when you go into Rominator at a later time, everything the way you had it set up will show up that way.

View Options for each game list are different as well, so you can have different views for each list.

Filtering Games

In previous versions of Rominator, there was a special type of list called a ‘Smart List’. Smart Lists have been removed as you now have the ability to add a real-time filter to a selected game list. Simple select your game list, and in the Tools Menu, choose ‘Display Filter’

2_1_6

Setting up the filter is incredibly simple. Just check the box beside what you want the filter to look for, select an operator (whether it be equal to, different from, greater than, etc), select the search criteria, and hit the ‘Apply Filter’ button. Your game list will be filtered down to what you’ve selected. Play around with it and filter your list however you like. It can be changed up at any time.

More on Game Management

• There are a number of different actions that can be done to your games by right clicking them, or using the buttons in the Toolbar. These are covered in the ‘Toolbar Actions’ section.
• You can delete a game (or multiple) from your list by highlighting the desired games to be removed, and pressing the ‘Backspace’ or ‘Delete’ key on the keyboard. This will remove it from the list, but retain it in the Finder or Windows Explorer. If you want to permanently delete a game, hold the ‘Shift’ key while pressing ‘Backspace’ or ‘Delete’. You will need to confirm the delete as it is permanent. WARNING: There is no way to undo a permanent delete of your games, so be careful!
• You can rename your game manually by clicking on it and pressing the ‘Enter’ key. The name will hilight and you can edit it. If the ‘Name’ column does not exist in your view options for that list, this will do absolutely nothing.
