Using Flash Cards
Flash Card Functions | Flash Card Editor

Another major feature of Rominator is the ability to manage your DS Flash Card. You can do an array of tasks with a flash card configured in Rominator, such as:

  • View available space on card in real time
  • Transfer games from your game lists over to your flash card
  • Auto-Rename or Delete your existing games
  • Backup the save games into Rominator’s save data folder
  • Download the newest Cheat Database for your card, courtesy of Narin at http://www.gbatemp.net/

To get started configuring your flash card, you will go into the same section to add a game list, but this time we will click on the Flash Card. After naming the card and selecting the card model, you will need to specify a location. If you do not have your card inserted, insert it now. Click on the text beside ‘Location:’ to select the flash card location. In my example below, I have set up my CycloDS Evolution card.

Note that whenever you select a flash card, the picture above it changes to match your card. If your card looks different than the picture, then you most likely have a different card. Once your configuration is finished, click the ‘Create’ button, and your flash card will show up in the Game Lists. You can see that it is a Flash Card because the icon underneath the available MB is different from a Game List.

Now your card is set up, here are some of the things you can do with it.

Flash Card Functions

Transferring Games - Select a game list and simply drag & drop the desired game onto your flash card in the list. It will then begin a transfer process and copy to your card.

Trimming Games - Simply highlight your games to trim and press the Trim button in the toolbar, or right click and select ‘Trim’
Backup Save Games - Highlight the games you wish to backup the saves for, and either click the Backup Save button in the toolbar, or right click and select ‘Backup Save’. All save games will be backed up to Rominator’s Data folder and can only be accessed by that specific game. More on save management in the ‘Save Management’ section.
Deleting Games - Deleting games from a flash card is permanent, but you can also back up the save game when deleting. Simply hit the Delete or Backspace button. You will be given a confirmation window, so if you say yes, your games will be removed.
Renaming Games - On a Flash Card, you can only Auto-Rename games, and it is done the same way as you would in a game list -- pressing ‘Auto-Rename’ in the toolbar or right clicking the games to rename, and selecting ‘Auto-Rename’ there.

Flash Card Editor

Once you’ve created your flash card, you can go back and edit the name and card type at any time. To access the Flash Card Editor, double click on your card in the game list. You will be presented with the editor window. Along with the ability to edit your card information, there is the Cheat Database Downloader in the same window, which can download the database from http://cheats.gbatemp.net/ courtesy of GBAtemp member Narin.

  • A - Flash Card Name: This is the name that shows up in the list.
  • B - Flash Card Type: Choose the proper flash card. It is important to choose the right kind as each card handles some things differently (e.g. the Acekard 2 save games have an extension of .nds.sav instead of just .sav)
  • C - Cheat Database Downloader: This will allow you to download the GBAtemp.net Cheat Database. Simply click the Update button and away she goes. Once the progress bar is done, it will tell you if you were successful in downloading the database. It will also show you what date the database was last updated on beside the ‘Last Update’ text. Very nice!

Note: There is a hidden option only available to registered users that will allow you to update cheats automatically. If the checkbox is checked (right underneath the update button) every time the flash card is inserted, Rominator will check to see if a new cheat database is available, and if it is, it will download it and update automatically for you.
