Metacritic Scores

Rominator has the ability to communicate with the Metacritic servers to retrieve game scores in your rom list. For those who do not know, Metacritic is a website that contains an average score for games and movies based on all of the different gaming magazine and website scores. Rominator can retrieve this data if an entry exists for your selected game. This page will guide you on how to retrieve Metacritic score data. Please note that Metacritic Scores can only be viewed for registered users!

1. Add the Get Score button to your toolbar.

To retrieve the scores you will need to have the button in your toolbar called ‘Get Score’. If you don’t wish to have the button, you can always right click on your games to get the game score.

2. Add ‘Score’ to the view options.

Adding the Score column will allow you to see the scores for your game list. It doesn’t make sense if you’re going to download scores and not see them :)

If you look at the Score column, you will see ‘??’ beside some of your games. These are the games that have Metacritic Scores available for retrieval, but have not been downloaded. If there is a blank space, it means there is no Metacritic data for your game.

3. Highlight the games to get the score for, and hit Get Score.

I’ve hilighted both games as they both have ‘??’ in the score column, and then pressed the Get Score button. The scores have been downloaded and I can now see the press score for these games. If you retrieve many scores, you can sort by the score column and see which games have the highest score, and which have the lowest score.

Another feature available in regards to Metacritic is the ability to launch the Metacritic Review page for a game that has metacritic data. Simply right-click on a game and select ‘Open Metacritic’.

Additional Notes:
If the score that is retrieved says N/A, it means that although Metacritic data exists, there isn’t a game score available yet for that game. Check back another day and redownload the score to see if an actual score has been set on the Metacritic Server.

Any Metacritic score downloaded will also be viewable in the DS Game Catalog, and vice versa. Although you cannot see the descriptions in the Rom List, they will also be viewable in the DS Game Catalog. Remember to be courteous and not retrieve the scores for too many games at a time. The last thing we want is the Metacritic server to retrieve such a heavy load that their server has issues. It’s definitely a nice feature to keep in Rominator so let’s not abuse the system.
